On Friday, December 7, 2007, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music broke ground on its rural property in Nelson, New Hampshire for a new Community Auditorium and Learning Center. The building will seat up to 60 people for music performances, recordings, community events, workshops, and conferences.
The Apple Hill Board of Trustees is naming the new building after benefactors John and Jean Hoffman. John Hoffman’s leadership at Apple Hill spanned six years as president, during which the organization grew dramatically, both financially and programmatically.
In January 2007, Apple Hill was awarded a grant from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority for $180,800 toward construction of this year-round facility. In conjunction with this grant, support from numerous private donors has made the project possible. Apple Hill is thrilled at the opportunity to expand local outreach programs and increase its artistic contribution to the Monadnock Region.
According to Apple Hill Executive Director Lenny Matczynski, the new building will replace the existing “Link,” which sits between the Farm House administrative building and the Rehearsal Barn. In addition to the auditorium, the building will also house a large conference room. Facilities will be accessible from the front and back, as well as from the Farm House and Rehearsal Barn. New bathrooms (handicapped accessible), parking, and a New England cape exterior will make the building comfortable, accessible, and harmonious with its rustic surroundings.
Board of Trustees Chair Dita Englund noted that fund raising is continuing for the project and that interested supporters may contact either her at (603) 847-9727 or Apple Hill Executive Director Leonard Matczynski at (603) 847-3371.
